Another borough, another Throwdown with Bobby Flay.

Large_5-22DISH The schedule for most of this season of Throwdown with Bobby Flay is online, and adding to Flay's bake-offs in Brooklyn with Cake Man Raven and in Manhattan with the Dessert Truck is his competition with Chow Gourmet, a take-out restaurant on the Bayonne side of Staten Island for anyone interested in a trip across the bridge for something other than Egger's or Denino's. We can't imagine what the competition is in, but they seem to have a wide selection of sliders on their menu, turkey, beef, pork, crabcake and PB&J for kids. The Throwdown's been a rumor floating around the Island for months now but we couldn't find the restaurant or the people who informed us anywhere until tracking them down last night at a local knitting circle. We're honestly surprised and genuinely excited somewhere so off the radar in the New York food community made the show.

The pitch this time, a fake take on Top Chef, via the Staten Island Advance:

"Chopped Chef is about trying to give regular chefs a shot at a little competition," he said, explaining that the show isn't like Top Chef where it's an ongoing series. Rather, the last chef standing in the cook-off will win a weekly competition.

"They throw a basket of food at you and tell you to make a meal," Burmeister said. He doesn't know all of the deets on the show yet but surmises, "It's kind of like an iron chef but only features non-celebrity ones."

Chow Gourmet is located at 370 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY.
