Grub Street calms our paranoia, explains their editorial process.
We were a little upset yesterday when we read on Grub Street how Will Goldfarb has returned from Bali, will be giving a talk at AIGA and has a new product line WillEquipped; (he apparently devised the brand just after Picnick started to fall apart.) We were upset because we wrote a more informed version of the exact same thing last week, and Grub Street's linked to us often enough all year, and never with solicitation, so why not now? We just had to find out.
"It wasn't so much stuff that I wanted to say and couldn't, as stuff that I didn't want to write about that I had to. One of the reasons I jumped at this opportunity was the chance to decide what gets written about."
Now we have a better idea of what he meant. Don't get us wrong, we're not holding Grub Street to any actual journalistic standard, it's a publication with its own point of view just like this, but the least they can do is differentiate between marketing and editorial for their readers. As for no one at Grub Street reading The Life Vicarious anymore, we can still face ourself in the mirror this morning, and Gael Greene, so should you!
