Need we at last trek no more to New York or Short Hills for Genius Bar service? According to Wikipedia, Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City is due an Apple store in 2009 and while it's finally opening, we seriously doubt this is what anyone had in mind. On the second story, opposite the massive iPhone warehouse and waiting room that is the AT&T store and across from Macy's which houses an Apple vending machine on its first floor, we recently spotted a brand new Apple Sales & Service Center. No big glass box but we suppose the white gates and silver apple keep in line with the brand's aesthetic. The kiosk hasn't show up on the Apple website as a retail location, but when one considers Apple is reassessing their retail strategy, we have to wonder if this is the foreseeable future of high end mall shopping. But can anyone explain how it works because this looks ripe to be ripped off?
UPDATE: So lame. Racked debunked the rumor and Apple's got nothing to do with it. Who would guess Arlen Specter would become a democrat before Jersey City would get an Apple store?
I would love to see an Apple Store in the mall, since I'm a huge Apple fan and live in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, this is just a cart for an Apple/Mac business in Jersey City called m2m. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
