With all the New York chefs and restaurateurs moving to Jersey City, we failed to notice the PATH runs the other way as well. Ian Kapitan's moved on from Iron Monkey to Jo's Bistro in the old Tasting Room space at 264 Elizabeth Street. Food prices seem on par with Iron Monkey, a ribeye tops out the menu at $25, and drinks are a bargain. Still, no return of the pork belly poutine. Lame.
Ox Restaurant closed July 14th this week. Click the link to read their farewell message and if you know any job opportunities for their exceptional staff. It was the first and only Jersey City restaurant to receive a rating of Excellent from The New York Times. Their bartender (um... the black guy?) was the best in town.
According to Jersey City Independent publisher Shane Smith's Twitter, Atomic Wings is finally opening July 22nd. Sad this is what's replacing the sambal drumsticks at Ox.
And according to WiredJC a new pizzeria, Paulus Hook Brick Oven Pizza, has opened in the former La Rustique space at 84 1/2 Morris Street. What you need to know? They still sell by the slice. What you don't need to know? They use spring water to make their dough.
If you're looking for dessert, head to Bayonne where the new Rita's Frozen Custard just opened in the former Popeye's space at 480 Broadway. Seven months in it's in the running to be the biggest restaurant opening in Bayonne this year.
ox's barentender's name was keith - heard he took a position in the city prior to closing, but forgot the name of the bar.
